No classes? Youth solon urges students to volunteer for relief operations

Kabataan Party-list Representative Raymond “Mong” Palatino today called on students to make use of their free time by volunteering for relief operations for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy.

Following the Commission on Higher Education’s announcemement that classes are suspended in the National Capital Region until Friday, the youth solon said students could instead allot their class-free days helping in the distribution of relief goods to areas hit hardest by the typhoon.

“Poor communities struck by Ondoy are in dire need of our help. Let us spend the short ‘vacation period’ by dedicating our time and our talent to those who have lost their homes and livelihood due to the typhoon. Our countrymen need all the help we could muster,” Palatino said.

Palatino said youth and students can volunteer through “Tulong Kabataan”, a donation and relief drive of major national youth groups to mobilize youth power to help victims of Typhoon Ondoy.

The campaign is led by Kabataan Partylist, National Union of Students of the Philippines, College Editors Guild of the Philippines, League of Filipino Students, Anakbayan, Student Christian Movement of the Philippines, in coordination with Citizen’s Disaster Response Center.

“Mobilize your community, barkadas and family to help out. Convince friends to chip in and donate. A couple of hundreds could go a long way. Go house to house and collect donations”, Palatino said.
